World news – Star publicly apologizes to Schapelle

Schapelle Corby's second take on reality TV fame was surprisingly apologized by one of the original Dancing With The Stars judges.

Schapelle Corby’s inclusion in the cast of Dancing With The Stars: All Stars in 2021 came as a shock to many – with any doubt, she would even make it through the very first episode.

Instead, returning panels Helen Richey, Todd McKenney, Paul Mercurio and Mark Wilson found themselves giving glowing feedback to the convicted drug smuggler.

The last candidate from SAS: Australia, who went on the dance floor as the last performance of the evening, shone in a sparkling red dress during her Viennese waltz and looked reserved as she moved across the floor.

« I was so nervous, I cried, I was out in the back, they had to put on make-up again, » she said to host Sonia Kruger afterwards.

While Corby, who only lasted two episodes of SAS: Australia last year, was still the third lowest score of the seven that appeared tonight, the judges raved about her waltz.

« I do indeed have to apologize to you because for some reason I don’t know why and it’s unfair to me, but I thought you were going to be crap, » he admitted, advising her « to move around with more freedom  » Forward.

Elsewhere, Mark Wilson called her performance « simply the most inspiring performance I ever expected. »

« I don’t know what I was expecting, but you have a bump, you have elegance, you are so emotional and in the moment, » he said.

Judge Helen Richey weighed in with a similar surprise: « You actually moved very gracefully on the floor, you looked very classy and I was impressed », while Paul Mercurio called your dance « sultry and beautiful ».

But with a score of 5 and 6 across the board – quite a surprising result given the feedback – she was having a hard time catching up to early front-runners Kyly Clarke and Bec Hewitt, who won DWTS ‘first season in 2004.

Ultimately, it was Fifi Box and her dance partner Jeremy who were sent to pack after the first episode.

Corby joins the all-star cast as one of the « wildcards », along with former Bachelor Matty Johnson, TV presenter Renee Bargh and model Jessica Gomes.

Dancing with the stars: All Stars will continue tomorrow evening at 7.30 a.m. on channel 7.
