The postponed Syracuse v Virginia match is now canceled after the Virginia women’s basketball program announced on Thursday that it would end the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 concerns . The game between Syracuse and Virginia was originally scheduled for January 7th.
Virginia played five games this season and had canceled or postponed six due to coronavirus logs. The Cavaliers are joining Duke as the only two programs at the Atlantic Coast Conference to opt out on health and safety grounds. Virginia also said that an exhausted roster due to injury was a reason to opt out.
The Blue Devils announced that their season will end on December 25th. Thirteen ACC teams will continue to play.
“The decision to end our season in the middle of the flow is very difficult. As difficult as it is to end our season this way, it is necessary, ”said Virginia head coach Tina Thompson. « We will continue to focus on their general welfare and prepare to resume competition this fall. »
