LOS ANGELES (AP) – A trip to Los Angeles was exactly what the San Antonio Spurs needed to get out of a preseason slump.

Two nights after beating the Clippers to one Scoring defeat in four games, the Spurs took another win on Thursday at the Staples Center, this time beating the Los Angeles Lakers 118-109.

LaMarcus Aldridge led San Antonio with a season high of 28 points and was one of five in the double-digit range. Demar DeRozan added 19 points and eight assists.

« He scored for us and worked hard on D, » said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich of Aldridge. : You know, he’s guarding Anthony Davis out there. It’s a pretty tough job. So he played a really good all-round game.  »

The Spurs were 16 out of 35 on 3-pointers after making 20 against the Clippers from beyond the arc. Eight players made 3-points, with Aldridge and Rudy Gay taking the lead with three players each.

Gay hit a pair of 3-pointers during a 9-2 run in the middle of the fourth quarter that broke the game open, after Los Angeles caught Harrell’s race to catch up within 96: 93 at Montrezl.

» We split the ball. Once you get into a good rhythm shoot, it’s contagious. When guys share the ball we have nights like tonight, ”DeRozan said.

LeBron James had 27 points and 12 assists, while Davis added 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who had captured their winning streak in four games .

« We played a really bad defense in the first half, » said coach Frank Vogel. « We didn’t treat Aldridge well enough and were therefore played out. »

The Lakers and Spurs played against each other three times in nine days, with the road team winning each time. Los Angeles took a pair in San Antonio last week.

San Antonio scored the top nine points and led the entire way. Lonnie Walker IV’s jumper put the Spurs 84-74 ahead in the third quarter before the Lakers ran a 15-5 run to tie them. Harrell’s setback from Talen Horton-Tucker’s miss made up for it at 89, and it was 1:04 before the Spurs regained control.

The Spurs’ biggest advantage was 15 points late in the first quarter and they were at halftime 65-56.

Spurs manager Gregg Popovich, who has not held back his views on President Donald Trump, said he believed Trump enjoyed Wednesday’s uprising as a violent mob leading the Loyal to the President, stormed the US Capitol to prevent Congress from confirming the November election results. « I believe with all my heart that Trump enjoyed it, » Popovich said 90 minutes ago the tip.  » They talked about the police and how easy it was and the barriers were pulled and they just went in. That only happens when there’s a wink and a nod somewhere. It just doesn’t happen. It has never happened in a protest that anyone has ever been to.

» So I don’t think it’s that far-fetched for people to start talking about the 25th Amendment. We know it probably won’t.  »

Players and coaches of both teams closed their arms in circles during the national anthem on midfield.
