An all-round effort by the Sydney Thunder Bowlers turned out to be too much for the Hobart Hurricanes-Batters as they couldn’t reach the goal.

The results: Sydney Thunder 5-167 (Khawaja 49, Ross 44 *, Cutting 31 *; Short 3-26) defeated the Hobart Hurricanes 8-128 (Handscomb 30) with 39 runs in the Optus Stadium
The heroes: At 5-110 the Thunder were in stormy waters when Ben Cutting came to Alex Ross in the middle and the key all-rounder Daniel Sams was absent due to a concussion.
But the hard hitting pair bonded to an unbroken stand of 57 runs that proved crucial and built on Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja’s opening partnership of 59 runs.
Ross, who fell after a groin injury Back on the side at the beginning of the tournament, gave up his seat to child prodigy Ollie Davies and pumped three sixes while Cutting hit 31 balls out of just 14.
Her fertile stance came after the thunder broke in the middle Had lost 5:59 to waste the strong start Hales and Khawaja had given them with 48 from the four power play overs.
The performance was typical of the Thunder this season, with the team getting closer again based on general contributions rather than individual brilliance.
The Support Cast: Nathan McAndrew may slip under the radar of most BBL fans, but the slippery right arm has made some useful contributions over the past few weeks.
His sacking of Hurricanes openers Ben McDermott and D’Arcy Short that same year could be his most important.
McAndrew bowled at a brisk pace and hurried with a pull shot to catch him in the ring, before he captured the tournament’s leading runscorer, McDermott lbw.
The hurricanes rebounded to hit the bash boost point when Peter Handscomb and Dawid Malan threatened to reel in the thunder.
But Sydney’s spin brigade from Tanveer Sangha (2:29, including a broken leg to remove handscomb), Chris Green (2:23) and Arjun Nair (1:19) ran through in his first game of the tournament the middle and lower order than the required running rate mounted.
The consolation: Short’s Bowling has run hot and cold this BBL season after playing without a wicket in all but one game on Thursday evening.
In his hometown of Perth in a square that usually favors the Quicks, the wrist caterpillar on his left arm was hot, removed three of the Thunder’s top orders, and braked after Hales and Khawaja turned away from a Flyer.
Short dismissed both openers and also removed Dangerman Sam Billings, which worried Sydney’s Batters by twisting the ball both ways and ending on a neat draw of 3-26.
The late scratch: Missed on a bouncing seat at Optus Stadium the hurri canes the extra pace of Riley Meredith, who suffered a side load after the bat rash, and the thunder allowed Nick Winter to replace him in the XI.

The next stop: Both teams will next face the Perth Scorchers. The Thunder, who will do without Sam’s coach Shane Bond again, will be back in action in two days, while the Hurricanes will also stay in the west, where they will play again on Tuesday.
