World news – Trevor Bauer gives up 3 HRs in the 5th inning, Dodgers loses to Mariners

Bauer only gives up one hit while scoring five hits in the first four innings, but Evan White, Jose Marmolejos and Mitch Haniger are each homers during a fifth inning with five runs for the Mariners.

THE GAME: Trevor Bauer gave up three home runs in a fifth inning with five runs and the Seattle Mariners defeated the Dodgers 7-3 on Monday night at the Peoria Sports Complex.

PITCHING REPORT: Bauer withdrew the first 11 Mariners batters in the correct order – then only two of the next eight before being removed from the game. Bauer only gave up a single while scoring five hits in the first four innings. In the fifth, however, he gave up two consecutive doubles (Luis Torrens and Dylan Moore) and then two consecutive home races (Evan White and Jose Marmolejos). Two batters later, he gave Mitch Haniger a solo home run to end his night. Bauer has given up five home runs in his last eight innings of the Cactus League game. … Right-handed Josiah Gray walked down the loaded bases to start the seventh inning and gave Kyle Seager a two-run double before his pitch got high and he was pulled out of the game.

BAUER TALK: That was Bauer’s answer when asked about his problems in the fifth inning. “I got exactly what I wanted tonight. I did really well the first couple of innings. I was sharp, landed curveballs for punches, slider was good – really good – cut the ball pretty well. So I got what I wanted. In the fifth inning, as I said, I threw pitches. Sequencing or whatever was really not thought of. I just threw pitches. That’s not a really good state of mind when you’re trying to get people out. But I just finished the night trying to count up my pitch.  »

HIT REPORT: Chris Taylor was 2 to 3 with a two-part homerun, his fourth homer of the spring. Taylor beats .419 (13 for 31) in the Cactus League. … Justin Turner was on the base three times, going 2 for 2 with a single, a double, and a walk. … Max Muncy was 2 to 3, taking his spring average to 0.242 after a slow start.

UP NEXT: Dodgers (RHP Walker Buehler) v Brewers (RHP Corbin Burnes) at the American Family Fields on Phoenix in Maryvale, Tuesday at 1 p.m., SportsNet LA, 570 p.m.
