Perhaps, as theaters reopened across the country, you yourself are rushing to the big screen to get your movie fix Anyway, if you’ve been thinking and supporting the local – as has been the general trend in 2020 – then you’ve had a lot of movies and shows from australian tv to watch And, of this eventful year, the best of the peloton have just been named nominees for the AACTA 2020 awards
The AACTA Awards – formerly known as the AFI Awards, before changing their names – covers several types of on-screen content, so there are a slew of local productions vying for a gong when the winners are announced on Monday, November 30 Since the initial rundown of nominees – and more will be revealed on November 12 – three of Australia’s best films of the year are among the top film contenders, with teenage cancer drama Babyteeth scoring 12 nods, the dazzling true story of The Kelly Gang taking up ten and the latest version of The Invisible Man gets eight
Other nominees in the Directing, Drama, and Cinematography categories include H is for Happiness, Relic horror film, Little Monsters zombie flick, Rams sheep-farming comedy drama and the Helen Reddy biopic I Am Woman in terms of stars, everyone from Hugo Weaving, Richard Roxburgh, Russell Crowe and Ben Mendelsohn to Eliza Scanlen, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Essie Davis and Deborah Mailman are in the running – as well as foreign actors such as Elisabeth Moss, Lupita Nyong ‘o, Sam Neill and George MacKay
On the TV front, if you’ve watched the final season and the Mystery Road miniseries Stateless, they each got seven nods per track On the comedy side, series nominees include At Home Alone Together, Black Comedy, The Other Guy, Rosehaven and Upright
