World News – UK – Australia doesn’t panic over Starc’s form loss: Finch

CANBERRA: Australia captain Aaron Finch has assisted under-attack Paceman Mitchell Starc to recover after the left poor was eaten by India’s batsmen in the first two games of the One-Day International series.

Australia sealed the streak 2-0 with their 51-run win in Sydney on Sunday, but Starc’s struggles have raised concerns that led to the four-test streak that opened on Jan.. December began in Adelaide.

Starc finished the game 0-82 of nine overs at the Sydney Cricket Ground two days after recording 1-65 in the opener on the same floor where he cashed in his first over 20 runs.

Finch said there would be discussions about how Starc could be used ahead of dead rubber on Wednesday at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, but he was unimpressed with the 30-year-old’s form.

« I think he’s fine, » the limited liability skipper told reporters Tuesday. « He wasn’t at his best and you have to understand that his standards are way higher than what you would expect from most other people because he’s been dominant for the past eight or nine years – especially the white ball- Formats.

« There will be some conversation about what we can do differently, if it’s a tactical thing, than we used it through the innings. But from my point of view there are definitely no panic wards. ”

Australia fetched huge sums of money on both occasions, forcing the touring batsmen to chase after the bowlers on fields that lacked the tempo attack.

« There’s nowhere to hide in one-day cricket when you’re playing on really flat wickets with high-profile resistance, » Finch said. « He’d love to swing the balls early, but when you’re defending big sums and playing against good players, they’ll come hard at you. ”

Finch said the loss of opening partner David Warner to a groin injury is a blow to Australia and a replacement has yet to be determined.

Matthew Wade, previously unused, could be brought in, he said, but the selection could opt to promote wicket keeper Alex Carey or Marnus Labuschagne, who battled for four in the second ODI depending on the field of play.

« He’s an all-time great in one day, T20 cricket, » Finch said of Warner. « Any team he doesn’t belong to will be a little weaker. But we have people who can get involved in this role too. ”

Finch enjoyed batsman Steve Smith’s centuries of success and expected him to play an important role in the Test series against India.

« For someone like Smithy, quitting can be difficult, regardless of the conditions, » he said. « If he’s confident and feeling good against a particular bowler, that definitely plays into his hands. ”

Meanwhile, Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer supported his team’s bowlers to do well in the final ODI. India’s batsmen have done relatively better, scoring more than 300 hits in both chases. Iyer said the team looked at the positive results of the two defeats.

« When you see the workload you went through in the IPL (Indian Premier League) when you played 14 straight games and came here after that, staying in quarantine definitely plays a role, » Iyer said on Tuesday. “And it plays with everyone on the team, not just the bowlers. I’m sure they are world class bowlers and with their attitude they will definitely come back stronger in the next game. I really believe in them and the coaches who have worked with them. ”

« Of course the bowling didn’t meet the requirements, but I’m sure the bowlers are really positive about their work ethic. . . We’re very determined to win the next game and make sure we don’t have a clean play, ”said Iyer.
