BENFICA boss Jorge Jesus believes none of his kids and stiffs did themselves favors to join his squad for the Europa League showdown at Rangers this week.

The team from Lisbon prevailed in a 1-0 win against Paredes from the third division against Paredes, where he rested his usual starting XI before the group game against the Light Blues.

Jesus used most of his reserves, B-Team players and youngsters because he wanted to rest his squad after the international break and they will not return to training until the day before the game against Steven Gerrard.

And he’s made it clear that none of the substitutes did anything to make it into his plans for the fourth round of games in the Europa League on Thursday.

He said: « These games are always complicated, but we didn’t play very well in the first half. I tried to change things and we got worse.

« We had four players debuting with us and a lot of younger players.

« I wanted this group of players to show me why I should put them on the squad for the European games and the league games, but they didn’t.

« The most important thing was of course the win and I hope we are fresh and ready to play Rangers in Glasgow this week. «

Meanwhile, Fabio Cardoso has claimed Rangers are « disrespectful » of the way they treated his 2017 injury.

He told the Daily Record, « When I look back on my time at Rangers, what bothers me most is that the club and the fans haven’t seen the best of me.

« It was the worst moment I had at the club – because it meant I couldn’t play.

« I never had another chance so it was difficult to improve and to show what I could do. «
