Brendan Rodgers believes Leicester’s new £ 100 million training ground will take the club to the next level.

The first team will train for the first time on Christmas Eve at the facility in Seagrave in north Leicestershire.

They were expected to move in in the summer, but the coronavirus pandemic had delayed the project that started in spring 2019.

The Foxes are runner-up in the Premier League and Rodgers expects the facility to help the club move forward.

« It is the most significant investment in the club’s history, » he said ahead of Manchester United’s Boxing Day visit.

“In terms of recruiting, this will add to what we have. We will always be in the market for a certain level of player. We don’t have the £ 50 million, £ 60 million or £ 70 million we can spend on a player. It’s pretty clear what market the club is in.

« But when you see the facility it will definitely help us. The club have always attracted really good players but we are now moving to an elite venue that will be of great help.

“The essence of Leicester City is that there is a real desire to develop people, whether you are a gamer or an employee. It comes from above.

The training grounds include 14 full-size courses and a floodlit 499-seat show course, as well as a private 9-hole golf course.

The old facility, where the foxes have lived for almost 60 years, is used by the women’s team, which turned professional in the summer.

Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said, “A new practice site has been a dream for many years, so we can be proud to implement it. Seagrave will be a central part of the club’s operations for future generations.

“Of all the investments we have made in the club, this has been our most significant. It is an investment in our players of today and our players of tomorrow that puts some of the best facilities in the world at the center of their everyday environment.

“It increases the club’s offerings for its players and employees to a completely new level and is a key component in making our progress over the past few years sustainable. ”

Meanwhile, Jamie Vardy is expected to be fit for United after a minor groin problem in Sunday’s 2-0 Tottenham win, while Caglar Soyuncu (groin) may make a return.
