World News – UK – Chris Green MP: All Unlikely to End in Stages!

. . This will all end in stages. At least this is what the government wants for the Covid-19 lockdown crisis.

. .

We went through many different lockdown levels that closed schools and closed our main streets.

In fact, Wigan, Bolton, and the rest of Greater Manchester have suffered more from the lockdown than any other part of the country.

As we look forward to Christmas, the government has set a new set of stricter levels to follow this current national lockdown.

When you are in tiers two and three, it ensures that the pubs stay closed. Tier 3 also means restaurants are closing too – for the thousands of people who work in the hospitality industry, Tier 3 will be a disaster

We are expected to have five days over Christmas to meet friends and family. Probably not as many as we’d like, and it’ll be over before we know.

When we first became involved in a national lockdown in March, we were told to expect it to only last three weeks. After the new year we count up to our first anniversary.

Many of my constituents supported the first steps to combat Covid-19, but that support has waned as the understanding of the threat increased.

Indeed, support for the government’s approach has waned when we consider its implications for education, employment, civil liberties, and children’s physical and mental health.

Fears that the cure is worse than the disease are mounting, but this is not due to fatigue theorists or conspiracy theorists, but rather to people’s experience of the effects of our cycle of lockdowns.

Although I voted against some government plans, such as closing the pub and restaurant at 10 p.m., I am amazed that at no point has the opposition tried to oppose the Prime Minister.

If Boris Johnson wants to impose bigger restrictions, Labor has already given its approval before they see the details.

Parliament is not working as it should and the opposition is not challenging as it should.

The Greater Manchester Mayor and I share great concern about the Greater Manchester hospitality sector and want to have as much open as possible, even though I disagreed with him a few weeks ago when he called for schools to be closed during this national lockdown.

At the time of writing, we do not know what stage we will be promoted to.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Liverpool, Warrington and St. Helens would be placed in Tier 2, while Wigan, Bolton and Manchester would be placed in Tier 3 in the run-up to Christmas.

Is the north in tier 2 or 3 while the south is in tier 1 or 2?

What I do know is that Labor MPs will support this decision while I am against it.

Hopefully a series of vaccines will allow the government to end this lockdown and release cycle, but I’m a little more cautious.

The vaccines may be good, but the early versions probably aren’t powerful enough to give us any real level of immunity and prevent the spread of disease.

Who would like a « freedom pass »? There is now speculation that everyone is being « encouraged » to undergo a twice-weekly Covid-19 test. Passing this test is rewarded with a permit that allows you to go to work, school, shops, and use of public transport.

I hope it will end in stages, but I fear that this probably won’t be the end.

When we find out, there will be nowhere left to drown our sorrows.
