World News – UK – Keith Hill hopes the Cup run can « stimulate » Tranmere

. .

Keith Hill hopes a good run in the FA Cup will help maintain Tranmeres league form after defeating non-league Brackley.

Hill, who took on his second game as Rovers boss, watched his team narrowly avoid a homicide when Kaiyne Woolery’s goal in the second half helped his team beat the National League North fighters.

The new Tranmere boss has put together a strong squad for the game, which signaled his intentions in the FA Cup this season.

He said: “It’s a difficult game and a good goal in the end.

“They made us uncomfortable, they played two defensive midfielders against our diamond and it was difficult.

“The goal was a moment of quality and we had to try to extend the game into the second half.

« It was too crowded there so we changed it slightly, and the substitutions happily worked for us.

« We didn’t play a weaker side because we wanted continuity. The players want to keep playing and not just give up on the shirt.

« They were difficult to predict, but we prepared well and I’m just happy that we conceded a goal and made it to the next round.

“It’s great that we will have the fans back next week. I know they watched them on TV, but having them back will be a twelfth man to us.

“And in round three we don’t want anyone in particular. Just a good opportunity to go as far as you can to stimulate league form too. ”

Kevin Wilkins Brackley side have struggled in the league this season but arguably had the best chance until substitute Woolery stepped in from the left wing to curl home brilliantly over the far post.

“We have shown that we have good players in our ranks and players who are on an upward trend in their careers.

« It’s been great to get more of our players back and we’ve tried very hard.

“On a fantastic surface we showed that we can compete and pass, and the respect we showed Tranmere was visible to everyone.

« Hopefully we can now incorporate this performance into our league form and get started.

« We had chances and you need something for us in places like this, but it didn’t quite help us. « .

« They scored a great goal, but we undermined their threat and they have great players in their ranks.

« We had a boy who made his debut tonight and two boys who haven’t played in a while. The boys are learning and understanding and should be proud of what they did tonight. ”
