The mother of an aspiring lawyer who fell 30 feet from a bridge and died after escaping from a burning car has called for additional security measures.
Azra Kemal (picture), 24, was traveling to London with a friend when their Ford Focus was on 16. July caught fire on the A21 near Tonbridge, Kent. The couple escaped from the car and crossed the street to seek help.
When Ms. Kemal tried to cross the road back, she allegedly fell down a gap in the central reservation and suffered “catastrophic” injuries. Her mother, Nevres Kemal, requested the installation of video surveillance, lighting, a barrier, signs and a hard shoulder. “My daughter lost her life. May she be the last, ”she said of an investigation at Maidstone.
Assistant Coroner Alan Blunsdon took a judgment on a mishap and said he was satisfied that she had consumed alcohol to the point where she was unsure of her feet.
« The likely physical impairment from alcohol consumption and the emotional roller coaster ride Azra experienced that night likely contributed to a lack of clear judgment, » he added.
Nicola Bell of Highways England told the hearing that it would take away some of the points raised.
