Wizz Air has announced that it will bring nine new routes to Cardiff Airport and create 40 jobs

Good news for vacationers as a low cost airline has announced a new permanent base at Cardiff Airport, offering flights to destinations across Europe and Egypt.

Wizz Air will also create 40 jobs as it brings nine new routes with much-needed boost for the airport.

They are offered in winter in resorts such as Alicante, Faro and Tenerife as well as on seasonal routes to Corfu and Palma de Mallorca as well as to Lanzarote and Sharm El Sheikh.

Welsh Transport Minister Ken Skates said: « This is a positive step for the airport to emerge from the effects of Covid-19. «

Cardiff Airport will become the airline’s fourth base in Great Britain after Luton, Gatwick and Doncaster Sheffield.

The airline said the move will indirectly create 250 more jobs in the supply chain.

Last month, the low-cost airline resisted the coronavirus darkness to launch new routes from UK airports.

The airline, which currently operates out of 11 UK airports, including Luton and Birmingham, added Gatwick, Doncaster and Sheffield to its UK network last month.

Chief Executive Officer Owain Jones said, « This (relocation to Cardiff) reflects Wizz Air’s continued commitment to serve the UK market and generate economic growth by creating local jobs, stimulating the tourism and hospitality industries and delivering on our promise Affordable direct flights to exciting vacation destinations. «

This is a much-needed boost for the airport following the Flybe collapse in March.

Hundreds of thousands of Flybe passengers had traveled through the airport each year on their various key routes.

Cardiff Airport Interim Chief Executive Spencer Birns said the addition was « fantastic news for Wales ». .

He added, « We know that after such a challenging year many people in Wales are craving a well-deserved vacation and these new flights offer so much more opportunity for vacation planning that we can all see something moving forward for next year. «
