Manchester City host Fulham at Etihad Stadium today, while Pep Guardiola’s side aim to build on the 5-0 win against Burnley last weekend. Riyad Mahrez scored a hat trick that day while Kevin De Bruyne did his majestic best as City completely dominated and eventually returned to his best in front of goal. So it will be a tough challenge for Fulham this afternoon.
Scott Parker’s side at least have their own confidence-building win to look back on after successfully beating Leicester City 2-1. The Fulham manager will be hoping a similar blueprint here can inspire another great performance on his part as they try to keep their heads above the relegation zone.
60 minutes: Man City quickly sweeps the ball from the right to Mendy on the left. He puts a curling pass in the center of the box, but it doesn’t fall on Jesus and Fulham to clear the danger.
57 minutes: Loftus-Cheek plays a ball into the penalty area for Cavaleiro, which gives the visitors a corner. It is played briefly and comes to Cavaleiro, whose flank is cleared by Stones. Mahrez hits the clearance on the half volley and sends De Bruyne free to counterattack. Sterling runs to the right side of the box, De Bruyne comes in from the left. De Bruyne does it alone, forcing Areola to make another sharp parade.
54 minutes: Kevin De Bruyne hands it over to Riyad Mahrez, who gives it back to Joao Cancelo. His abbreviated passport for Gabriel Jesus is then cut out.
51 minutes: From the bar! There’s plenty of space on the counter for Man City. De Bruyne brings the ball forward through the center of the field and sends it to the left side of the box for Jesus. Jesus takes a shot and puts it to De Bruyne, and his shot hits the crossbar and ricochets!
48 minutes: Cancelo races forward with the ball and leads it far to Mahrez. He shoots it into the box and tries to pick Jesus, but the passport is intercepted and booted free.
Second half: The visitors restart the game. No changes from either side as the ball is passed down the left wing and sent out of play.
Raheem Sterling finished a run of seven league games without scoring for Man City. He let out a roar of relief when the ball found the back of the net and it looked like more might come in the second half.
It looks like Man City is in the table from Nov.. on the 4th. Jump place, only three points behind Tottenham and Liverpool at the top of the table.
At the start of today’s opener, Burnley hosted Everton at Turf Moor, where Dominic Calvert-Lewin canceled Robbie Brady’s opener. This is what happened:
Burnley 1-1 Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored again when the Toffees came off a goal to score a point at Turf Moor.
