Michael Sheen was overwhelmed with emotion as he recalled his emotional homage to Port Talbot, Wales on today’s episode of Jennifer Saunders’ Memory Lane.
The Hollywood star revisited the hometown location where he gave a 72-hour performance of The Passion in 2011, which ended when he was nailed to the cross for the crucifixion scene.
« My character was a town teacher who had a breakdown and lost his memory, » Michael told Jennifer. “And when I was crucified, the idea was suddenly that the ground would open up and what came out was the memories of the city.
« We had that 60-foot jet of water behind the cross and projected onto it, films I’d collected from home videos and past events. ‘
« When I was on the cross, my own mother and father’s wedding was there, » revealed Michael, letting him suffocate.
« Over the years I’ve developed it, I’ve kept the list of everyone I’ve heard of who died and the things that used to be dressed in town that were no longer dressed « he continued.
« I learned as much as I could from it and when I was on the cross I said a list of all the things that were lost and that came up from the ground.
Michael added that his involvement with The Passion changed his life in many ways and sparked a new relationship with Port Talbot.
« I remember thinking I will never do anything more meaningful in my life and I am happy with it, » he concluded.
« This will be the best I have ever done in my life in my career. ‘
