Telford police have opened an investigation after a video showing a student being assaulted by two other boys was posted on social media.
The video posted on Twitter shows a boy who is alleged to be Sikh and who wears a school uniform during an attack.
The attack is scheduled for Friday the 13th. November, when students went home from Charlton School in Telford.
The school has stated that it will « take full responsibility » for working with the students involved and will work « closely » with the local Sikh community and their leaders after the attack.
A statement said: “The Charlton School works hard to create a safe and caring environment where proactive measures are taken to ensure students are protected from all forms of bullying. ”
The school wanted to point out that despite the after-school attack, they are taking full responsibility for working with all affected students. They also contacted the parents of those involved, who appear to be « satisfied » with the school’s measures.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said it was “clearly an incredibly worrying incident. They added that it will be treated as a hate crime and with the utmost seriousness. ”
Supt Jim Baker said that the boys involved have been « identified » and that « the investigation is ongoing. «
He added that the youth hazard police team and the school will work together to ensure that « appropriate action » is in place and that the police « are working with our local communities to provide security. ”
West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John-Paul Campion posted a statement on social media that he was reassured by the rapid police response.
Mr. Campion added: “As PCC’s fight against hate crime remains a priority, we all have the right to be who we are without fear of the behavior of others. ”
It was tweeted: “We trust the West Mercia Police and the school involved are treating this matter with the necessary sensitivity. It also advised the Sikh community not to contact the school directly on the matter. ”
Slough Labor MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi said on Twitter that « bullying and anti-Sikh hatred cannot be tolerated. « He also said that he was sad to see such behavior.
