The conservationist has amassed more than 6. 2 million followers since setting up an account to encourage people to take action to prevent climate change.
When Sir David came to the site in September, he broke the record for the faster user to reach a million followers. It only took him four hours and 44 minutes to hit the milestone.
Dave, rightly, you could say, took the record from Friends’ star Jennifer Aniston, who received the coveted million in five hours and 16 minutes when she joined in October 2019.
His first post was an IGTV video warning about climate change. The first story introduces the two men behind the account.
Collin Butfield and Johnnie Hughes collaborated on his Netflix documentary Sir David about A Life on Our Planet, which was released a few weeks ago.
In the video, they said, « Social media is not David’s usual living space. While he records messages exclusively for Instagram, like in this post, we’re helping to keep this account running. «
Sir David then says, « I’ve been on radio and television for 60 years, but this is my first time on Instagram.
« As we all know, the world is in trouble. Burning continents. melting glacier. Coral reefs are dying. Fish are disappearing from our oceans. The list goes on.
« But we know what to do about it, so I’m tackling this new type of communication for myself.
« For the next few weeks I will be recording messages to explain what the problems are and how we can deal with them.
« Join in, or as we said in those early days of radio – hang on. «
Unfortunately, it looks like we’re no longer receiving any messages from the legendary conservationist via his Instagram account.
His record was also recently broken by actor Rupert Grint when he hit the platform earlier this month.
The Harry Potter star managed to hit the milestone in just four hours and a minute, a full 43 minutes faster than Sir Dave.
His new followers received a lovely photo of the 32-year-old actor posing with his young daughter on Wednesday and a joke about how he was only ten years behind everyone when he joined the social media platform.
He wrote, « Hey Instagram. . . . only 10 years late but here I am. Grint on the gram! Here to introduce you all Wednesday G.. Grint. Stay safe, Rupert. «
Some of his colleagues at Hogwarts have tuned in to express their delight that Grint has come on board. Draco Malfoy himself – Tom Felton in the Muggle world – wrote, « Welcome Weasley, the time has come. Greetings on Wednesday xx «
Furthermore, he shared another Harry Potter connection as his profile picture shows Dame Maggie Smith – who played Professor Minerva McGonagall – kissed him on the cheek.
Dominic has a degree in French and History from the University of Leeds. Like you, Dom often asked how often a second language was used. After working at the Manchester Evening News, the Accrington Observer, and the Macclesfield Express, and never setting foot in France, he found the response surprisingly small.
