Starting today (September 30), thousands of homes in England will be able to ask for help with their energy bills
As part of the government’s new green house grants, the scheme will give households vouchers of £ 5,000 and £ 10,000
Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the initiative in his July mini-budget, revealing that it could also create around 100,000 jobs
He said the program would give more than 600,000 homeowners in England vouchers to install insulation, heat pumps and a draft protection system
It will also help lower the prices of the energy bill as the British now prepare for the colder seasons
In total, the government estimates the measures could save families £ 600 a year on gas and electricity
Business and Energy Secretary Alok Sharma said: “Green home improvements will save people money on their energy bills, reduce carbon emissions and create new jobs for thousands of builders, plumbers and other craftsmen «
Eligible households will receive the voucher worth up to £ 5,000 to help cover the cost of their energy upgrades
But if you are a low income household and have certain perks, you might qualify for a £ 10,000 voucher instead
To apply for the voucher you must live in England and own your home or be a private or social owner
Upgrades include insulating your home to reduce your energy use or installing low-carbon heating to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced by your home
You can also check what help you can ask for and search for an approved supplier online
Brits eligible for the grant must ensure the voucher is spent and all the work is done by March 31, 2021
