Worzel Gummidge returned to BBC One on Christmas Eve, and fans rushed to their keyboards to pay tribute to Dame Barbara Windsor as her former alter ego.Saucy Nancy appeared on the show

A special episode of Worzel Gummidge that aired on BBC One on Christmas Eve and a fan of the iconic children’s show were full of nostalgia.

As a result, Saucy Nancy, the figurehead of the abandoned ship, once again needed help from the friendly scarecrow Worzel (Mackenzie Crook) and his human friends Susan (India Brown) and John (Thierry Wickens) to get back to sea.

EastEnders icon Dame Barbara Windsor, who sadly passed away earlier this month, played Saucy Nancy in the original TV adaptation with Jon Pertwee, based on stories by Barbara Euphan Todd.

Viewers rushed to their keyboards to pay tribute to television legend Barbara when the show returned to their screens.

On Twitter, a fan wrote: « Let’s not forget the original of Saucy Nancy » next to a photo of Barbara as a character.

Another added, « Remembering the naughty Nancy from the 1980s. Worzel Gummidge was played by the wonderful Barbara Windsor. « 

A third person wrote, « Wasn’t Barbara Windsor the original Saucy Nancy? Or did I dream about it? »

Shirley Henderson played Saucy Nancy alongside the main cast of Mackenzie Crook, India Down and Thierry Wickens in the new episode.

The actress Barbara died on 10. December at the age of 83, six years after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Talking to The Sun about whether the latest installment of Worzel Gummidge was a tribute to Barbara, Crook replied, «  » Absolutely, yes. She played the original version and many people will remember it fondly.

The special program was the third part of the new iteration of the series. The previous two episodes, called The Scarecrow of Scatterbrook and The Green Man, were released on Boxing Day and Sept. 27 last year. First performed December.

Worzel Gummidge became popular between 1979 and 1981 when Doctor Who star Jon Pertwee took on the lead role.
