World news – United States – DK Metcalf makes most notable play in Seahawks loss in Arizona

Without touching the ball, DK Metcalf had a game that everyone was happy about following Sunday night's loss in Arizona

Over the course of five games, Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf was one of the NFL’s most productive pass catchers with 496 yards and five touchdowns. He had a relatively calm game, in terms of numbers, in Sunday night’s 37-34 overtime loss to Arizona

But despite catching just two passes for 23 yards, Metcalf made one of the best plays of this season, one that had teammates and opponents raving after the game, and one that had drove football fans crazy on social media

With the Seahawks driving for what they hoped would be another touchdown, Russell Wilson threw a pass to Chris Carson, failing to see Cardinals safety Budda Baker breaking the ball

Baker landed Wilson’s pass and sprinted off the left sideline for what appeared to be a 98-yard touchdown, but Metcalf had other ideas Despite being behind Baker and in midfield, Metcalf continued and eventually used his 433 seconds of 40-yard running time to catch up to Baker at the 8-yard line after a 90-yard return

That choppy play turned out to be even bigger four games later when the Seattle defense stopped the Cardinals at fourth base and then again when the offense walked 97 yards for a score, or 20-7 shortly after Baker almost gave Arizona 14-13 lead

« It was one of the best football games I have ever seen, » said Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who has seen his part of football play in a coaching career dating back to the 1970s « It was just remarkable You saw him realize what was going on, the opportunity, and he just used all that wonderful skill that he had and wanted to go running the guy And that was a piece so amazing because of what happened after The defense followed and rallied, came out of there on four tries and took the ball on them, the offense goes (97) yards with the player and brand I just think it was an inspiring piece no one could miss it Anyone who watched this game whether you like soccer or not you can see it was something out of this world I never got one saw one like this, and the follow up, because of the inspiration moment was extraordinarily well done, so really a good piece for all weather «

“It was one of the most remarkable pieces I have ever seen,” Wilson said “… He just kept going, man It was just an amazing game on his part, just the effort I made. Really respect him for that That’s what it takes, just a winning effort Like I told you guys he’s one of the best players in the league, he’s one of the most most special that I know, he’s one of my best friends, and I really respect him Not just because of his efforts on this particular piece, but that’s who he is, that’s who he is, everyday It’s consistent that way, that’s why I like it «

Even Tyler Lockett, who had a career best game with 15 catches for 200 yards and three touchdowns, including two spectacular ones in the end zone, thinks his fellow receiver could have played the game of the season.

« It was an amazing game, » said Lockett « Honestly it was probably one of the best plays we’ve had this year When you see how Budda caught the ball and how he was almost 15 yards in front of everyone just the fact that he never gave up – he took off, he caught up with him, he stopped him, and not only that, but they didn’t give up t even score, not even a basket And then we rolled and we scored after that It was a great play It was a big game by a great player, and it was one of the best games that you can see him do it without touching the ball »

According to NFL Next Gen stats, Metcalf ran 1,148 yards on the play, reaching a top speed of 2,264 mph, the second fastest speed recorded by a tackler this season after teammate Shaquill Griffin, who hit 2,275 miles per hour on a game against Dallas

DK Metcalf hit 2264 MPH and traveled 1148 yards to chase Budda Baker on his 90-yard intercept return (Baker’s top speed: 2127 MPH) It was the 2nd fastest speed achieved on a tackle this # SEAvsARI season | #Seahawks | #RedSea picTwittercom / nyX0Y16LQz

Even Baker, a former high school alumnus from Bellevue and the University of Washington, was impressed with Metcalf despite being the victim of the commotion, telling reporters it was the first time in his life that he was caught from behind like that

« I was running, and the next thing you know I see the big 14 coming after me, » said Baker « He got me This is the first time I’ve been broke in my life »

Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said he thought Baker was going to score: « Until this huge human stallion came galloping out of nowhere (Baker) Phenomenal Anticipation DK Metcalf is an absolutely bizarre athlete, and what an effort he plays High school coaches will show one for years – don’t give up a play «
