Amazing day, ”Dave Chappelle said at the top of his Saturday Night Live monologue this week

The comedian began by talking about his great-grandfather, who was born a slave in South Carolina He told the moving story of how he learned to read after being freed and became a leader of the AME church, but then things took a turn

The misdirection and subversion that defined Chappelle’s comedy were present throughout his longer-than-usual monologue In response to a friend in London who texted him saying « the world feels like a safer place now that America has a new president, ”he replied,“ That’s great, but America doesn’t ”

« Do you remember what life was like before COVID? » he asked the audience « One mass shoot every week Does anyone remember that? » Thank God for COVID Someone had to lock up these murderous whites, keep them in the house. « And to the » poor whites « who don’t like to wear masks, he added, » What’s the matter? You wear masks at the Klan rally, wear them at Walmart too! « 

“You don’t even want to wear your mask because it’s oppressive? Try wearing the mask I’ve been wearing for all these years!” Chappelle said, “I can’t even say something true unless ‘there’s a hitting line behind You’re not ready You’re not ready for this You don’t know how to survive on your own In fact, we’re the only ones who know how to survive White people are coming, hurry -you, quickly, come take your n * gga lessons « 

Four years ago this week, Dave Chappelle, who was hosting SNL for the first time, shared this message with the world about Donald Trump’s shocking election victory: « I wish Donald Trump good luck And I will give him a chance And we, historically deprived of their rights, ask that he give us one too « 

The show appeared to be tempting fate by once again inviting the comedian to host the first episode after the 2020 election.The fact that the race wasn’t officially called for Joe Biden until Saturday morning made the moment even more meaningful

“Now Trump is gone,” Chappelle said this week “Now I know a lot of people don’t like him, but I thought the guy was at least an optimist I’m not as optimistic as him I look, there are bad people on both sides. « When that line didn’t get anything from the crowd he shook his head and added, » Okay, I was just trying it out  »

After highlighting how the president got the best treatment available for his coronavirus while letting an ally like Herman Cain die after attending one of his “Think About It! A white man And I don’t want to put this on white people, but I’ve been black for a long time and noticed a pattern «

“I implore everyone who celebrates to remember, it’s good to be a humble winner,” Chappelle said on Saturday “Remember when I was here four years ago? Remember how it hurt me Remember half the country right now still feels this way Remember that « 

« Remember that for the first time in the history of America, the life expectancy of whites decreases because of heroin, because of suicide, » he continued. « All these white people out there feeling that angst, that pain, that man, they think nobody cares. Maybe they don’t »

« Let me tell you something: I know what it feels like, » he added. « I promise you, I know what it feels like If you’re a police officer and every time you put on your uniform, you feel like you have a target on your back, you are appalled at the ingratitude of people when you would risk your life to save them, believe me I know what it feels like « 

« But here’s the difference between me and you, » said Chappelle « You hate yourself for it And I don’t hate anybody I just hate that feeling It’s what I’m struggling This is what I suggest you fight You have to find a way to live your life You have to find a way to forgive yourself You have to find a way to find joy in your life despite this feeling What if you can’t do this come take these n * gga lessons «
