Julia Cooper (team legend), « Alaska » – Rating: B | The ‘bizarre and eccentric’ 21-year-old from Poland, Ohio, Julia inspired three chairs from the start with the distinct quivering of her voice (Blake was never convinced) John was delighted with the way she entered and came out of her head voice and displayed not only softness and vulnerability but also power In response, Kelly suggested that Julia had a sonic rival on Team Legend – Cami Clune But I think Cami will go further than Julia; it may be too unique for a show that loves its competitors to fit perfectly in the alleys

John Sullivan (Team Blake), “Operator” – Grade: A- | This 6-foot-7-inch former baseball player explained in his pre-interview that he used the music to get away from the diamond when he realized he wasn’t going to be drafted On stage he shot in an absolutely lovely blanket of Jim Croce that got Blake and Gwen the chair ride It was very faithful to the original and really dreamy But as with teammate (and lane rival) Sam Stacy, it didn’t show the sort of vocal firepower that tends to wow voters At least we must have an amazing John / Sam battle to look forward to

Skylar Alyvia Mayton (Team Kelly), « Blinding Lights » – Grade: C | Before her blind, this 15 year old girl expressed her ardent desire for Kelly to help her discover her musical identity. And what do you know? She only got one round of the chair, but on that seat was Kelly’s damn kid The kid is clearly talented, but in her portrayal of the hit of The Weeknd it felt a bit unrefined to me. There were uncertain times when she made me go « hmm » – never a good sign during the blinds (when it’s time for the vocals to be mellowed before the air) – and a lack of richness beneath the sweetness of the sound. your

Lain Roy (Team Gwen), “Someone You Loved” – Rating: A | Holy shit From the first note this 22-year-old from a small town in Ohio sounded like a suitor. His voice was precise, passionate and as moving and nervous as it was beautiful; that hint of sandpaper was just… mm, too good! He didn’t play so much as he exploded! While it was his high school rendition of John’s “All of Me” that really got Lain into music, he mysteriously chose Gwen to be his trainer. Could she actually score her first win?!? Even Lain said he couldn’t believe he chose Gwen

Worth the wait (Team Blake), « When will I be loved? » – Quality: B | Ah, the season 19 stunt band: a mom / daughters trio from Teensy Center, Ala, who only took on their current lineup when the daughters’ sister had to give up the act to take care of her new one. -born with Special Needs On stage, the trio dazzled with their harmonies – after all, what single competitor can do that? And the four chair towers were divine – I could listen to that until the cows came home But other than the thing that there were three of them, I wasn’t sure they were « special enough » »To go that far

Emmalee (Kelly Team), « How Will I Know » – Rating: B | I would have immediately turned my chair for this 20-year-old singer / songwriter who once turned a childhood gift from a golf club into a microphone; his voice was so powerful at the start As the two chairs lit up I became less and less impressed Vocally, she went well but ultimately not great Her strength may lie less in the performance than in her ability to reinterpret numbers familiar, as she did with her slowed down acoustic rendition of the Whitney Houston classic

Bailey Rae (Team Legend), « Does My Ring Burn My Finger » – Grade: C | Once a competition shoe, this 18-year-old Oklahomaniac told us before her tryout that she came from a long line of rodeo people. Tori Miller (Team Gwen), “When You Say Nothing At All” – Rating: C | This 26-year-old told us before playing that she became best friends with her father, who died after an eight-year separation due to his addiction issues. James Pyle (Team Legend), “Watermelon Sugar” – Grade: B | Growing up, this 30-year-old was considered a drummer – he thought, because he had never really shown people he could sing. Even as he took to the stage of The Voice, he admitted that he had only ever done a handful of gigs as a singer – and two of them had been uncrowded open mics But damn if he didn’t bring it His touching Harry Styles cover reminded me of spiked iced tea – sweet, descended easily and packed more oomph than I expected He also had a lot more stage presence than I expected. didn’t think so
