The Pentagon’s top generals on Tuesday condemned the January 6 attack by Trump supporters on the Capitol and told US forces that it was an illegal attack on the constitutional process.
« The violent uprising … was a direct attack on the US Congress, the Capitol and our constitutional process, « reads a memorandum signed by all eight members of the joint chiefs of staff, headed by the chairman, General Mark Milley.
« The rights of freedom of expression and assembly do not give anyone the right to resort to violence, riot and insurrection, » they said.
« Any act that disrupts the constitutional process is not only contrary to our traditions, values and beliefs our oath, but also against the law. «
The message came amid concerns that the Trump-supporting extremists who raided Congress for certification of Joe Biden as next president denten, have supporters in the armed forces and law enforcement agencies.
Trump and his supporters have refused to accept that Biden won the November 3rd presidential election fairly and solidly.
The Pentagon is betting up to 15,000 National Guard troops to protect Biden’s inauguration on January 20 for fear of renewed violence.
Pentagon officials were asked on Monday about the possibility of pro-Trump activists in the Guard and among regular troops. < The Joint Chiefs underlined the point, saying that "Biden would be inaugurated under the Constitution on January 20," and will become our 46th Commander in Chief.
In South Korea, the US Forces Commander in Korea, General Robert Abrams retweeted the JCS statement saying there was « no ambiguity ». The events at the Capitol are an « attempted insurrection ».
« If you serve in uniform and think it is otherwise, I would encourage (you) to sit down and read the constitution you swore to support and defend, « wrote Abrams, using the handle @DogFaceSoldier.
