World news – US – Federal Officer Shot Outside Downtown Phoenix Courthouse

The Phoenix Police Department said the courthouse security officer was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police said that a federal officer was shot outside of a downtown Phoenix courthouse Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred outside of the Sandra Day O’Connor U.S. Courthouse, according to a statement from Phoenix Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Ann Justus.

« One person has been transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries, » she said.

Phoenix City Council member Sal DiCiccio, who represents District 6, tweeted that the officer was struck several times in a drive-by shooting but was wearing a bulletproof vest. DiCiccio also said the injured officer was a U.S. Marshall who was able to return fire at the car as it sped away after being shot.

« Make no mistake, this is a direct result of the extremist anti-police attacks we have seen from BLM and Antifa across the country, » he tweeted. « This insanity needs to stop. »

Phoenix police released a photo of the suspect’s car. The silver sedan was seen leaving the area near 6th Avenue and Washington Street and investigators are searching the area.

Justus said in a second statement that the ongoing investigation is being turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
