DETROIT METRO – Strong winds on Sunday knocked trees down and caused mass blackouts across the Detroit Metro.
The National Weather Service issued a wind warning for Genesee, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Sanilac and St counties. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne to 4 A.. M. Monday.
Starting at 6:40 am. M. On Sunday, more than 195,000 DTE customers were without electricity. Interruptions are common throughout Metro Detroit with a large number near West Bloomfield.
A fire started in Atkins Drive in Troy when a tree fell on a utility pole. The video can be seen below.
Ryan Stow, of DTE, said there are about 1,000 power lines cut across the Detroit Metro.

“The high winds and torrential rains have caused widespread damage to trees and over 1,000 power lines across the DTE service area so far.. DTE Kits assess damage, perform repairs, and restore power in areas where it is safe to do so. In a statement on Sunday afternoon, officials said that continued bad weather – and additional interruptions were expected during the evening.
“We understand how difficult it can be to be without authority and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these interruptions may have caused,” the statement continued.. Our crews are working as safely and quickly as possible to restore energy to affected customers and we will not stop working around the clock until all outages are resolved..
