World News – US – High winds can cause business interruptions, PSEG Long Island warns

PSEG Long Island warns customers that high winds and heavy rain are forecast for Christmas Eve, December. 24 and Christmas Day, Dec. . 25 could lead to power outages.

« While we are closely monitoring this latest weather event, our crews are ready and willing to respond safely and as quickly as possible to restore power so customers can celebrate the holidays, » said John O’Connell, vice president of Transmission & Distribution at PSEG Long Island. “We ask our employees not to go on vacation in order to fulfill our obligation to provide customers with safe and reliable electricity regardless of extreme weather conditions. ”

Power outages could last into the weekend, the company said given the intensity of the projected storm and the lack of crews available to fix damaged cables due to the vacation.

« Due to the regional impact of the storm and the holidays, there are fewer crews from other areas available to support our restoration efforts, » he added. “We are continuing our efforts to obtain additional resources. We will take all available measures to reduce downtime and restore power safely and as quickly as possible. ”

The company is asking customers to stay in their homes while crews work to fix failed power lines in accordance with the company’s COVID-19 social distancing protocols. Customers are also encouraged to stay at least 30 feet from failed power lines and immediately call 911 to report failed cables.

PSEG urges customers to report outages using their mobile app by sending OUT to PSEGLI (773454), through the utility’s website, or using Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant app. Customers can also call PSEG Long Island’s 24 hour power number (800-490-0075) or use PSEG’s web chat facility.
