While a fourth championship would further strengthen LeBron James’ record as one of the greatest players of all time, it would not be enough to pass Michael Jordan as the great player of all time, according to Jalen Rose

Rose, former NBA guard, current ESPN analyst and now New York Post media personality, told Insider ahead of the 2020 Finals that he considers James one of the top four players of all time – enough to put it on the Mt of NBA Rushmore

« [James], if he wins this championship, in my opinion, will pass Magic Johnson and become a member of the Mount Rushmore in NBA, » Rose said while promoting her new column, podcast and video series with the post

“When I judge the greatness of all time it’s how dominant you were among your peers in your day,” Rose said “That’s all we could compare you to”

Rose said when Jordan’s career began, the Los Angeles Lakers of « Showtime », along with Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, were at their peak, as were Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics. Jordan then faced Isiah Thomas and the « Bad Boys » Detroit Pistons

« Well other than that when [Jordan] was winning he won three [championships] in a row, two different times, » said Rose. « LeBron James has never won three in a row So to me the greatness of Michael Jordan among his peers in his day is twice that of LeBron James »

Rose added: « During [James’s] era, those 17 years, I saw Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry, as well as Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Tim Duncan, I believe, all winning several championships. »

Rose said James’ chance to pass Jordan went out the window when he failed to win the many championships he promised during his introductory press conference with the Heat

« LeBron’s chance, for me, to legitimize being bigger than Michael Jordan came at a press conference: ‘Not five, not six, not seven If [the Heat] had started to win four, if they had started winning five I think he would have catapulted himself into that category But not having « three bogs » when Jordan has two « Rose said, pausing

Rose stressed that he sees James as a great player and an even more impactful person off the pitch.

« I’m old enough to know about the Ali Summit and what these athletes sacrificed, and now he stands on their shoulders It’s my ultimate endorsement for him as a modern day athlete, » said Rose

But Rose said that after playing against and watching Jordan and James, the winner is clear

« I know young people are like, ‘Oh, well you just hate LeBron, you’re just old’

« Well, first of all they use the term ‘hate’ badly That’s not how you use the term ‘hate’ The second, if I’ve seen them both play, I don’t hate no I’m giving you a game because I saw them both and you didn’t «
