Augusta patriot seems to be tired of imitating at least one Master. The sympathetic final round pin is no longer put on the par-3 16.
Golf Twitter woke up Sunday to the surprising revelation of the right-back pin of Final Course 3 on the court. Surprisingly, both the site and the fact that those papers people liked (more than) sharing actually provided some interesting information.
Golf fans have been accustomed to seeing the location of the left rear hatch through the years that has allowed players to use the right-to-left slope for great success. In the past fifteen years alone, there have been 14 aces in the hole, and nearly all of them made it in the final round.
In 2016 alone, three were made, and last year Bryson Deschamps and Justin Thomas each made their Sunday crushes mission.. Earlier this week during a training run, John Ram used that ramp when he skidded his ball from the pond in front of the green and made a great ace..
Of course, this Pin produced excitement in other ways as well. Last year, Tiger Woods coaxed his tee three feet away to design a bird that gave him a lead with two bullets while continuing to claim his fifth green jacket. His previous master’s win in 2005? You may remember what happened there. (Hint: Have you ever seen anything like this in your life ?!)
Not exactly cute, is it? Especially with the Greens playing a little softer than usual this year, it will be hard to get to a close one there. Although, as Jack Nicklaus showed in his famous duel with Johnny Miller and Tom Wiskopf in 1975 when the Pin was in a similar location, you don’t need to hit it near it to make a bird. .
So we’re still seeing some excitement, but don’t expect to see a hole in one. This is bad news for the gamblers who have taken the 180th bet, but good news for Dustin Johnson.
