Thousands of power outages have been reported across Connecticut as a result of Sunday night storms and some schools are delayed by two hours on Monday.
Starting at 6 AM. M. Eversource is reporting over 20,000 power outages. Darren, Newtown and Norwalk are the hardest hit areas. At one point Eversource reported over 36,000 blackouts.
United Illuminating reported just over 400 interruptions on Monday morning. Right after the storm on Sunday night, UI reported nearly 4,800 outages.
There was a two-hour delay in Beit El public schools on Monday due to the number of fallen trees blocking roads in the city after the storm..
“We need a delay of two hours to determine the power outages for remote learners and safe bus routes because the wires may be broken, causing unsafe situations,” the district said.
Litchfield Public Schools and Newtown Public Schools also run a two-hour delay schedule on Mondays.
A Sunday night storm knocked down a holiday tree on New Haven Green and cracked some branches. City workers erected cones around the tree as a precaution until the oath. Of public works to decide what are the next steps.
Eversource teams and Avon firefighters have rescued a person trapped in a car broken with wires. The accident happened on Lovely Street. Site crews told us that the trapped person is fine.

Many lights go out on Route 44 in Avon, one of the main thoroughfares in the city.

A tornado warning was in effect for parts of Fairfield County. There were also several severe thunderstorm warnings in effect across the state. It’s all over.
There were reports of strong winds of up to 76 mph in Greenwich. Bridgeport has seen winds of up to 61 mph.
