A 4-year-old girl died after being washed at sea by a wave in West Marin, authorities said on Friday.
The incident was reported around 4 p.m.. m. The Marin County Fire Department said Thursday at McClures Beach on Point Reyes National Seashore, where a large fall swell created waves 8 to 12 feet high.
The girl’s father jumped into the water to save her, but he was unsuccessful.
« She was in the water for long periods of time and then came ashore where National Park Service rangers immediately delivered CPR, » said Graham Groneman, chief of Marin County Fire Battalion.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter took the girl to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland, where she was pronounced dead, Groneman said.

The girl’s father was taken by helicopter to Petaluma Valley Hospital, where he was treated for hypothermia.
