Boston helps
In a moment that Patriot fans might see as representing the team’s disappointing 2020 season, Bill Belichick responded to a poorly chosen coach’s challenge during Monday night’s game with the Bills by tossing a side phone.
Belichick picked one of his challenges during the AFC East matchup after Bill’s narrow end Dawson Knox caught a 15-yard side pass in their first scrimmage game in the third quarter.
The Patriots’ longtime head coach was right next to Knox and quickly threw the red flag to signal a challenge.
After review, however, it was a pretty straightforward decision for the office: Knox had both feet caught the ball in their place.
After the relatively quick check (which confirmed the catch of the bills), Belichick was spotted on the edge of a phone conversation with the Patriots’ staff. Then he tossed the phone in frustration before walking away.
« Whoever suggested they want to challenge to Coach Belichick got an ear, » noted Steve Levy, play-by-play commentator for ESPN Monday Night Football.
Things only got worse for Belichick when the Bills completed the ride with an 18-yard touchdown to Stefon Diggs.
