Former skipper of the Nepalese national team, Paras Khadka, lost to Kyle Coetzer when the Scottish captain won the ICC Men’s Associate Player of the Decade Award.
Coetzer had led Scotland to the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and was central to Scotland’s rise in world cricket over the decade. Paras, who led Nepal to One Day International Status through the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualification 2018 in Zimbabwe, had led his nation to the ICC World Twenty20 2014, the country’s first and so far only global showpiece event.
ICC announced the bot’s winners as Associate Player of the Decade for men and women on Sunday. It was a great day for Scotland when Kathryn Bryce won the Women’s Associate Player of the Decade. An ICC jury declared the winners. ICC had also opened voting for all ten awards it had launched for the first time.
It also recognizes Men’s and Women’s Player of the Decade, Test, ODI and Twenty20 International Player of the Decade. All categories were also chosen. Also, the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award of the Decade is presented.
Coetzer was one of the three Scottish players nominated in the Associate category. Callum McLeod and Richie Berrington were the other two. Former Dutch captain Peter Borren and Ugandan skipper Asad Vala were the other two nominees.
