The showdown was announced on Friday afternoon after months of teasers and growing speculation. Cole hinted at the fight in an Instagram post in May when she shared a fan-created chart comparing her long list of hits with Ashanti’s. Cole tagged the « Rock Wit U » singer as well as Verzuz co-creators Swiss Beatz and Timbaland, who asked her, « Is that right? »

Ashanti and Cole broke into the mainstream in their early infancy, collecting a number of awards and records. Formerly the Princess of Murder Inc. . Before Ashanti embarked on her own art trail, she delivered classics like « Foolish », « Rain on Me » and « What’s Luv? » with Fat Joe as well as « Always on Time » and « Mesmerize » with Ja Rule.
