World News – USA – George Gerdes, character actor who appeared on « NCIS », « Grey’s Anatomy » and « Perry Mason », dead at the age of 72

The actor and singer-songwriter George Gerdes died on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Gerdes was rushed to a Glendale, California hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm on New Years Day. He was 72 years old.

Gerdes’ life partner Julia Johns confirmed the news of his death to entertainment reporters. Those close to him began coverage of the tragedy on social media too, including actor Titus Welliver. Fans from different genres and media mourned Gerdes, many remembered him for various appearances in his far-reaching career. Gerdes received his first on-screen credit in 1968 and worked continuously on television and in films until his death.

Gerdes is best known for showing films in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, rumor has it. . . , Hidalgo and Single White Female. However, TV fans may know him even better. His last recurring role was on Amazon Prime Video’s Bosch, where he played Ray Scales until 2019. He has also recently appeared on NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy, and Perry Mason.

Friends of Gerdes emphasized that the fans did not see him. In tributes to social media, Bosch co-star Welliver called him « an actor and a deeply kind man, » while Michael McKean wrote, « Dear old friend . . . was a wonderful songwriter, poet, and actor who was loved by everyone who knew him. You would have liked him too. « 

Gerdes’ close friend Terre Roche made a statement directly to reporters: « George’s songs and performances were unlike anything I’ve ever heard before or since. The songs were beautifully processed. But by the time he took the stage, it was like becoming a conduit for all sorts of characters from the movies as he effortlessly had rapid-fire conversations between Buster Keaton, Elvis the Wicked Witch of the West, Laurel & Hardy and countless others from his youth. «

« George was a triple threat, » Roche continued. « A great singer-songwriter and an actor too. Not to belittle the worth of big stars, but in many ways George was too deep and deep to become a big pop sensation. Many of us New York singer-songwriters of the time are indebted to George’s influence. He once told me that as a child he wanted to go on television with all the people he met there. With his acting career, he fulfilled this dream. « 

Gerdes is survived by John’s and three nephews – Zachary, Michael and Will. The family said some sort of funeral will take place when the coronavirus pandemic is over and asked the mourners to donate to the Meher Spiritual Center in lieu of flowers on his behalf.
