Houston is about to face a cold spell, but has to survive a few rainy days first.

In parts of the Houston area, it already started on Friday morning when a warm front hung around and the cold front approached. The early afternoon will bring a new group of storms to Harris County, and they should be standing over coastal areas tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms could bring gusty winds, small hailstones and localized road flooding to the region. Rainfall could reach 2 to 4 inches with 4 to 6 inches in some areas. The temperatures remain in the range of the 70s to 60s.

The rain will temporarily ease on Friday evening, but will return early Saturday and last until late at night. Flash floods will be possible on Saturday and the low will be in the 50s.

The rain and thunderstorms are expected to end early Sunday morning when the cold front hits. Highs will be in the 50s and 60s for most of the week, and some areas could hit lows in the 30s and 40s, according to the NWS. In areas north of the I-10 corridor, temperatures could drop below freezing by Tuesday morning, according to the NWS.
