The reality TV gods have given us the reward we need to get through the first Monday of 2021: The Bachelor returns to the screens tonight.

The 25. The show’s season returns with 32 women battling it out for the season’s bachelorette, 28-year-old Matt James. Since this is the era of Covid, the entire season was filmed at Nemacolin, a resort in Pennsylvania, and all contestants had to be quarantined prior to filming.

And as luck would have it, one of the participating women comes from the DC region: Mari Pepin, a 24-year-old from Odenton. We have summarized everything we know so far about Pepin before today’s premiere:

Pepin was Miss Maryland USA 2019. Although she didn’t win the Miss USA 2019 title, she ended up in the top 10 that year. She was also Miss Maryland Teen USA in 2014.

According to her pageant bio, Pepin’s family lived in multiple locations due to her father’s job in the Army and eventually settled in Maryland. She attended Meade Senior High School in Fort Meade.

According to Pepin’s undergraduate bio, she is the director of marketing and announced on Instagram last June that she had started her own social media management firm, Innovessa.

Perhaps the most controversial stance Pepin could have posted on social media: She doesn’t like sauce other than BBQ sauce and ketchup. It remains to be seen if this has hurt their standing with the honey mustard bachelor crossover fan base.

Mimi Montgomery joined Washingtonian in 2018. Her work has been published in Outside Magazine, Washington City Paper, DCist, and PoPVille. Born in North Carolina, she now lives in Petworth.
