The second game of the Champions Classic on Tuesday could be an important one as No.. 7 Kansas stands in front of No.. 20 Kentucky at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. It’s going to be a battle between two of college basketball’s bluest bluebloods, and to no surprise, it’s a matchup between two teams that started the season with realistic NCAA title expectations.

Strangely, both hope this game can serve as an improvement after a bumpy start. Kentucky lost favorites at home to Richmond over the weekend, while Kansas beat No.. 1 lost. 1 Gonzaga in his opener, and so they both start the season 1-1 on Tuesday.

Kansas: Bill Self and the Jayhawks are replacing two All-Americans in Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson with a seasoned core led by Marcus Garrett, Ochai Agbaji and David McCormack. This may not, by and large, be as elite defensive as it was last season when KenPom ranked second nationwide in adjusted efficiency, but the KU is poised to pitch a competitor based on its experience and top end talent. They romped against Saint Joseph’s on Friday to make it 1-1 of the season and kept the Gonzaga game competitive, which is no small feat against a team believed to be betting favorites to win the national championship.

Kentucky: Kentucky was reversing its wins and losses when Kansas stumbled here. It opened its season with a resounding 81-45 win over Morehead State before falling 12 points at home against Richmond on Sunday. The Spiders have an experienced squad and may have the best team in the A-10 so don’t panic for the UK just yet. Even so, this is an interesting place to see how the young wildcats react. John Calipari starts with four newbies and one senior. So we’re going to quickly learn how this young group of stars deals with adversity at one big point against a top 10 team.

Kansas has an experienced and proven backcourt. Kentucky’s forecourt – led by Olivier Sarr, a high-ranking 7-footer – is long and talented. Ultimately, this game will be decided on the sidelines, and since it’s a throw I’ll take Kentucky and the points. This Wildcats team is young but incredibly long and talented top to bottom, enough to give Kansas – for all their experience – enough fits to keep it within scope. Might even be worth a money line sprinkles. You know Britain will be brought to their knees after a weekend home loss to medium-sized opponents. Selection: Kentucky 3. 5
