The National Dog Show gives us a sense of normalcy in 2020 . . . COVID be damned.
The Philadelphia Kennel Club has kept the Thanksgiving tradition alive with its annual dog show . . . although things looked a little different out there, and understandably so. There was no crowd to cheer for the pooches who pranced and strutted their things on the floor.
And with no crowd, the KCP seems to have borrowed a page from professional sports teams . . . Using cutouts of dogs and their owners to fill the seats. Those who bought clippings also supported a big cause . . . The proceeds go to the AKC Pet Disaster Fund.
The show, which aired on NBC after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, complied with COVID-19 safety protocols to cancel what was in and of itself remarkable.
People wore masks. As for the dogs . . . Usually about 2. 000, this time only 600.
Instead of two shows over the weekend . . . There was only one show that was split into two days and that took place on Nov.. and 15. November was shot. Despite all these limitations . . . The show still managed to introduce three new dog breeds – the Barbet, the Belgian Laekenois, and the Dogo Argentino.
