Nelly still can’t believe he made it to the finals of Dancing With the Stars, but credits his pro partner Daniella Karagach and alter ego, Yung Swivel, for helping!

« Personally, I talk a lot. I mean that’s what I do; I’m rapping, « Nelly told ET’s Lauren Zima during a break from one of his recent rehearsals. « But when I saw it actually came into play, I wasn’t entirely sure. Daniella believed that if she was working hard, and I was determined to actually try, we would have a try. And she was right. «

As for the nickname Yung Swivel, the rapper believes the alter ego creation was « very critical » for him to make it this far into the competition.

« I think sometimes, when you’re trying to get comfortable and put yourself in vulnerable situations, [it’s good] to have someone to channel to. To say, ‘OK, what would this person do if they were in this situation?’ « Nelly explained. « I think that allowed me to get through what I had to go through. It’s like being a hip hop artist not using your government’s name, so to speak. I don’t rap as Cornell Haynes, I rap as Nelly because Nelly would. «

During the DWTS final on Monday, Nelly and Daniella will fight for the Mirrorball trophy against Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev, Nev Schulman and Jenna Johnson as well as Justina Machado and Sasha Farber.

Each finalist has to dance twice. For Nelly and Daniella they first repeat their samba to « Rhythm of the Night » by DeBarge. Then they’ll perform their final dance, a freestyle to « Savage » by Megan Thee Stallion and « Hypnotize » by The Notorious B. . I. G. as a last minute chance to impress judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli and America.

« We’re just going to have fun and hopefully the people back home can relate to us, » Daniella teased. « It’s about improvement and just having a good experience and I think that’s all rolled into one. «

While the first-time pro couldn’t reveal too many details about her freestyle, she told ET that they « let go » and « do what we do ». «

« I would say it’s very energetic, » added Nelly. « Something that has never been seen on the show, that kind of energy. That kind of fun. «

Speaking of fun: #TeamDaNelly also shared what they have in store when they take home the mirror ball trophy.

« We are hammered! » Exclaimed Nelly and burst out laughing. « I got my driver ready. We’re getting hammered, it’s already a work in progress. «
