Matthew Wade received a dramatic reprieve Tuesday night after Virat Kohli’s attempted review was declared « null and void » by the TV referee. Officials believed India’s captain saw a replay from the venue’s screen.

There was confusion at SCG on Tuesday evening during the third Dettol T20I when opener Matthew Wade, who played in 11th. advanced from 50 balls to 50, hit the front pad by poor left Thangarasu Natarajan and not spent.

Kohli, who had been on the field for a long time, tried to communicate with the bowler and wicketkeeper KL Rahul whether he should review the referee’s decision and after much deliberation, looked like he had decided against it.

But when the skipper turned to return to his marker on the border, he saw a replay of the delivery on the big screen and requested a review.

Wade was preparing for a strike when Rahul announced that a review had been scheduled.

« We can no longer do this review, » said Wilson. « There is repetition on the big screen.

Viewing a retry will lose the integrity of the review and will assume that the large screen did not have a 15 second countdown clock.

Had Kohli checked without seeing the replay, Wade would have failed, and the ball-tracking technology would have confirmed that Natarajan’s delivery would have lined up and hit the left-handed to hit the stumps.

India maintained their rating, play resumed and three balls later Wade Shardul Thakur sent off for the first six of the night.

Australia’s vice-captain scored 80 of just 53 balls, a career-best international T20 score to help India win 187.

Kohli requested another review from the same position on Jan.. over, this time with just a second on the clock.

Glenn Maxwell, previously caught off a no-ball by leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, was not charged for a residue, and Wilson confirmed the call on the field when no bat or glove was found in contact with the ball.
