The real freshman quarterback announced he was leaving Norman on Twitter on Thursday. The announcement came after Morris got a run in the Sooners’ 55:20 win over Florida in the Cotton Bowl on Wednesday.

« I’d like to thank Coach Riley, the staff, and the University of Oklahoma for the opportunity they gave me, » Morris shared on Twitter. “After much thought, prayers and discussions with my family, I have decided to leave OU. I will forever be committed to this great program. Thank you and God bless you. ”

Morris made five appearances for Oklahoma this season as a true freshman. He completed three of his five passes for 39 meters. Most impressively, he scored two quick touchdowns when he beat Iowa State in the Sooners Big 12 Championship in December. 19th.

The highly regarded quarterback came to Norman as No.. 7 ranked dual threat quarterback in the 2020 class. Chandler is the son of Chad Morris, the current head coach of Arkansas. So he has clearly received high quality football education.

Morris was the second Oklahoma quarterback to opt out of the Sooners program last month. Long-time supporter Tanner Mordecai decided on a transfer at the beginning of December and ended up at SMU.

If the two players leave, Lincoln Riley will only have two scholarship quarterbacks on the team’s roster through 2021. Starter Spencer Rattler should return next year to lead the Sooners as recruit Caleb Williams joins the program. The incoming newbie is the No.. 1 ranked double threat quarterback in the 2021 class.

In the meantime, Morris should have many applicants heading into a new year. He clearly has the talent and the pedigree and now just needs one place to lead himself.
