. World News – USA – Rohit not in Australia due to father disease, fitness test on Nov.. December: BCCI

Team India's skipper, Kohli, previously complained about "ambiguities" regarding Rohit's fitness

. .

The BCCI finally cleared up « confusion » about why Rohit Sharma had not traveled to Australia with the team after Captain Virat Kohli complained of « ambiguity » stating that the best batsman after the IPL had to be in Mumbai for his sick father.

Apart from that, the board of directors said that the fastest bowler, Ishant Sharma, will start at age 17. December will be excluded from the test series because he will not be fit in time.

The Board reiterated Kohli’s claim that Rohit’s Fitness stopped working on Nov.. December is to be checked, after which a call is answered whether he can be there for the tests.

“Rohit Sharma had to return to Mumbai after the IPL to take care of his sick father. His father is now recovering well and that has enabled him to travel to the NCA and begin his rehabilitation, ”BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a statement after Kohli expressed his displeasure with the lack of information on Rohit’s fitness.

He will likely miss the first two tests due to 14 day quarantine rules in the host country. The series begins with a day in Adelaide.

Kohli had said he had no idea why Rohit didn’t do his rehabilitation in Australia with Wriddhiman Saha.

Shah clarified that the white ball vice captain had returned to Mumbai after the United Arab Emirates IPL to take care of his ailing father. He then registered with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

« He (Rohit) is currently being rehabilitated at the NCA. The next review from Mr.Rohit Sharma will be on 11. December, after which the BCCI will have clarity on its participation in the upcoming Border Gavaskar trophy in Australia, « the statement said.

It is understood that the « confusion » Kohli referred to was caused by the BCCI’s cricket operations team.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is also known to urge Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley to ensure that if Rohit leaves, he can go through a soft quarantine that will allow him to stay during the 14th day’s isolation phase.

As for Ishant, Shah said the lanky pacemaker has recovered from its side stress but will take some time to reach its maximum match fitness.

« Ishant has fully recovered from the side exposure he suffered during the 2020 IPL in the UAE, » he said.

« While building his workload to reach the fitness of a test match, Ishant Sharma was banned from the Border Gavaskar trophy, » added Shah.
