Washington, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12. December 2020): The U.S. Senate approved a week-long budget gap on Friday, avoiding a government shutdown and allowing warring lawmakers to continue negotiations on pandemic aid to millions of Americans and businesses.
After Parliament passed what is known as the rolling resolution earlier this week, which would allow the current funding of all federal agencies until. December 31st, the Senate passed the measure by vote and sent it to President Donald Trump’s desk before the midnight deadline.
The temporary solution faced a procedural threat from an unlikely duo, Conservative Senator Josh Hawley and far-right Senator Bernie Sanders, as part of a pandemic relief package who are seeking a new round of discount checks sent direct to Americans.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers has worked to refine a $ 908 billion stimulus plan that includes new unemployment benefits, aid to state and local governments, and protections for limited companies.
But party leaders remain at odds over the package as Americans face the worst economic downturn in decades, faced with the largest public health crisis in a century.
