He was physical. He finished the runs. He averaged 4. 7 yards per carry and ended with 107 yards of scrimmage. He scored one of the team’s two touchdowns.
There wasn’t much to like in the Steelers’ performance in Cincinnati on Monday night in a 27-17 loss to the Bengals, and Benny Snell couldn’t do enough to change that result. But it seems fair to point out his game as a ray of hope.
Snell started with the injured James Conner and rushed for 87 yards 18 times. In the fourth quarter, he scored a 1-yard touchdown that brought the Steelers’ deficit down to 24-17. He also caught three passes for 23 more yards to deal with 107 yards before scrimmage. Snell is Steelers Digest Player of the Week.
Also contemplated were Diontae Johnson, who caught eight passes for 59 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown and incurred an 11-yard interference penalty that brought the ball to the 1-yard line to set up Snell’s touchdown. Minkah Fitzpatrick, who had seven tackles including one lost to a third to force a Bengals punt 2-23 in the fourth quarter, and the Steelers who needed a touchdown to tie the game; and Cam Heyward, who had seven tackles, including one due to loss, and consistently played with the effort it takes for a team to win games in an NFL season.
