World News – USA – Steelers have to start Anthony McFarland versus Ravens this week

There was news that James Conner tested positive for COVID-19 and will be missing out on the Ravens game this week. This means that the Steelers will have to turn to a new back to take on leadership roles in his place. While the Steelers typically used Benny Snell as their top reserve, this is the week that Anthony McFarland Jr. . begin.

The simple rationale behind this is that this is an excellent opportunity to see what the Steelers have in the Maryland rookie. Snell is much more of a defined and well-known player on the team. The Steelers saw what he has to offer and while it certainly isn’t bad, McFarland should be given the opportunity to show what he can do as a setback.

Snell is what most major bruises are: a rock-tough power runner that won’t fail on first contact. He plays similarly to Conner, but doesn’t seem explosive while running. However, this is a double-edged sword. He fights early in the games as the defense is fresh and can stop him. However, later in the game he is still running as hard as before, even though the defenses are more worn. This was evident in the first week as some of his previous transmissions against the Giants were crammed but he continued to run hard for the remainder of the fight.

Simply put, the ravens are expecting a heavy dose of Snell on Tuesday. They will structure their defenses to include a power runner that will allow them to focus more on stopping the pass. McFarland would open up a whole new kind of offensive as he’s the opposite kind of running back that Snell and Conner are.

McFarland is known for its speed. That was his calling card in college, and it’s the quality he showed best on a professional level. People will look at his stats low so far and claim that his speed is not carried over to the field. However, the opposite is true as it does not appear to be able to settle down when carrying. This is likely because he’s a newbie and sees so few opportunities.

In addition to his first game against the Texans, McFarland has not played more than three times. He seems to hesitate and stumble on himself as he tries to find his hole to walk through. This has produced less than great results, but more broadcasts could fix this. Right now, McFarland is trying to get the most out of a little. He knows his tote bags will be limited, which means he will try at all costs to start the home run.

If he got more than 10 broadcasts in a game, he could calm down knowing he would have the opportunity to run later. That way, he can settle into a routine and run, knowing he’ll have another shot later. Given its breakthrough speed, this could translate into some big wins if given the opportunity to launch.

Nor would that mean ignoring Snell. He should still see a healthy amount of snapshots at close range and on the goal line. If the Steelers get a head start, the Steelers could turn to Snell to end the game in a punishment style. Snell will continue to play a role on the offensive, but he should play second fiddle to McFarland.

After all, this game would have a big impact on the future. Conner will likely leave the free agency after this season. That said, the team will be looking for a new start. While a new draft pick or even a cheaper free agent could meet that need, it would be even better if the team had confidence in one of their current depth options. Again, Snell showed what he is. So when you see what McFarland can do with a bigger load, you can determine his long-term worth with the Steelers.

With Conner this week, the Steelers have a great opportunity to see what they have in McFarland. Given its dynamic pace, additional broadcasts could help make it a more prominent starter next year. While Snell shouldn’t go away because of McFarland, he should still be playing second fiddle after the rookie this week.
