Eden Hazard was sent off with an apparent injury in the first half of Real Madrid’s game against Alaves on Saturday.
The Belgian winger lasted less than 30 minutes before limping off the field as Zinedine Zidane’s side would eventually fall 2-1 to the visitors.
Hazard, who just made his third La Liga appearance this season, has been replaced by Rodrygo.
The 29-year-old’s campaign was severely disrupted by injuries as he missed the start of the campaign due to a muscle problem.
He played for the first time in the 2020/21 season when he came off the bench in the Champions League draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of October and returned to the starting XI four days later in the league game against Huesca and scored the first goal as they 4-1 winners have gone out.
A few days later, however, he tested positive for Covid-19 and had to take a short break.
Hazard was back in action last week when he took part in the 1-1 draw with Villarreal in the Spanish top division.
He then played in the middle of the week in a 2-0 win at Inter in the Champions League, in which he scored the first goal after just seven minutes.
Los Blancos were fourth in the table in Saturday’s match at the Santiago Bernabeu, six points behind leaders Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid.
The hosts fell back just five minutes after the clash against Alaves when ex-Arsenal and West Ham attacker Lucas Perez converted a penalty.
Hazard had a chance to improve his score later in the half when he picked up the ball near the center line and headed for goal. However, the former Chelsea star’s attempt was turned down by Alaves goalkeeper Pacheco.
Madrid would take two goals early in the second half when Joselu picked up an idiosyncratic pass from Thibaut Courtois from 25 meters away and turned it into an empty goal. Casemiro took belated consolation but ultimately Alaves held onto a famous win.
Hazard has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Madrid since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2019.
Despite his struggles, Belgian coach Roberto Martinez has supported him to give his best again next year.
