The Troy Trojans attempt to take down their state rival for the third straight year when they take on South Alabama on Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans and Jaguars will cause a sensation from 1pm at the brand new Hancock Whitney Bank Stadium in Mobile. m.

The rivalry between Troy and South Alabama dates back to 2012. After winning in 2018 and 2019, the Trojans want to be the first team to win three games in a row.

The Jaguars (4-6, 3-4 SBC) suffered a four-game loss last Saturday when they beat the state of Arkansas in Jonesboro (38-31). The Trojans (4-5, 2-3 SBC) fell to Appalachian State last week, extending their losing streak to three games. They have also lost four of their last five games.

« We’re leaving the App State trip and honestly we just haven’t played well, » said head coach Chip Lindsey. “We’ve had some good jumps and played well on the offensive, but other than those few drives we were hit and missed for most of the night. ”

The Trojans are hoping their defenses bounce back this week after allowing 40 points and 554 yards in their 47:10 loss to the Mountaineers.

« It was probably the worst game we’ve played all year, even though one of the touchdowns was pick six, » said Lindsey. “We had a few bright spots, but just too many missed tackles and missed tasks, and that struck me. We knew App State had a really good offensive and we’d have to play well to have a chance of winning, but we didn’t. ”

This week, the Trojans face quarterback Desmond Trotter, receiver Jalen Tolbert, and a Jaguar crime that ranks third in the Sun Belt Conference at 253 yards per game.

« It all starts with her quarterback Desmond Trotter, » said Lindsey. “He’s a double-threat man and South Alabama is doing a great job of using his skills. They did a good job keeping him safe so he can throw him deep, but also use him while the game is in progress. If you look at your team, your reception core is very dynamic. ”

Tolbert goes into the league in second place at the age of 5. 9 catches per game. He averages 99. 3 meters per game.

« I notice his ball skills, » said Lindsey. “He’s a very talented man in terms of his skills, but his ball skills are great. He has a knack for playing with contested catches. He’s a very explosive guy who also played well last year but took another step in his game. He makes game after game and is one of the better recipients we’ve seen this year. ”

The Trojans’ offense garnered 10 points and 231 meters of offense last week. They played three different quarterbacks. After Gunnar Watson started, Parker McNeal and Kyle Toole came on Saturday.

« I felt we had to try something different because we weren’t getting what I wanted from this position, » said Lindsey. “The score also dictated some of it. It gave us an opportunity to show Parker McNeil and Kyle Toole a series to see what they can do in a live game situation. It was a good learning experience for both of them. We assume that Gunnar will be ready on Saturday and hopefully play better. ”

Watson and the Trojan Offensive will build a Jaguar defense that will take sixth place in point defense (27 points), seventh place in pass defense (258 yards) and eighth place in rapid defense (180 Yards). .

« Your defense played extremely hard. The defensive line is a group of good, big guys who play their game brilliantly and make it difficult for the offensive line. Riley Cole is a man who leads her defense. He’s a very talented player. He looks like he’s very comfortable in the linebacker position after playing more on the ball last season.

« I see a defense that is constantly improving and that will be a challenge for us. No matter who we play against, if we don’t do better offensively, it will be difficult. ”

This is Troy’s fourth trip to Mobile. The Trojans have beaten the Jaguars in three of the four matchups at Ladd Peebles Stadium.

If there has ever been a « place of quiet tranquility » it is tucked away on Chunnenugee Ridge in Northern Pike. . . Read more
