Around two million British at risk have been urged to re-shield as the country enters a third national lockdown.

People who are considered to be extremely clinically at risk are advised to stay home at all times – unless they need to schedule a doctor’s appointment.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke at the Downing Street briefing tonight about the fact that those affected would receive a letter outlining what this means for them.

This means that the group, which includes people with chronic illnesses, should only leave home for exercise and health appointments and not work unless they can do so from home.

People in the clinically extremely vulnerable group are most at risk of dying or developing serious problems in society when they get Covid-19.

Tonight the Prime Minister said: « Our hospitals are under more pressure from Covid than ever since the pandemic began.

« In England alone, the number of Covid patients in hospital has fallen by almost a third to almost 27 in the last week. 000, and that number is 40 percent higher than the first high in April.

« The number of deaths has risen 20 percent in the past week and will unfortunately continue to rise.

« It is clear that together we must do more to get the new variant under control while our vaccine is being introduced.

People in the extremely clinically at risk group include cancer patients, people with rare diseases, and pregnant women with significant heart disease.

During the first national coronavirus lockdown in March, millions of British at risk were ordered to stay indoors.

As part of the second lockdown in November, restrictions on the vulnerable group were eased slightly, allowing those at risk to go outside to exercise.

These are the same restrictions for people who are in Tier 4 areas. All non-essential shops and fitness studios are closed in tier 4 areas.

People who are classified as clinically extremely at risk have a very high risk of serious illnesses from Covid-19.

Regarding children belonging to this group, children should not go to school during school hours if a family doctor has indicated that a child is still a screened patient.

Children who live with a parent or legal guardian in this group should continue to attend school.

Regarding travel, those shielding themselves should still go to appointments unless a doctor or health care provider advises against doing so.

They are also advised not to go to stores or pharmacies and to use the available support so that they can stay at home.

Many protective Britons received hope earlier this month when the UK’s coronavirus vaccination program began.

The priority list is then carried out in order of age, taking into account those with underlying health problems.

Prof. Jonathan Van-Tam previously said: « The first phase of the JCVI priority list, which cuts us down to those aged 50 and over and under 50 if you belong to a risk group, is not taken together an accident they do – with a very effective vaccine and higher Ingestion – 99 percent of Covid-related mortality, deaths.
