The Commodores will be understaffed again on Saturday as they face the Tennessee Volunteers below the SEC threshold of 53 active scholars.

Vanderbilt is only attracting 49 scholars to his last game against Tennessee on Saturday amid opt-outs, COVID-19 quarantines and injuries, a university spokesman told The Hustler.

The minimum threshold set by the Southeastern Conference (SEC) is 53 active fellows. If a team falls below the minimum, they can still choose to play instead of postponing the game or declaring it non-competitive.

Vanderbilt’s notable absences include Dayo Odeyingbo, a senior defense attorney who signed off this week, senior recipient James Bostic, Rutger Reitmaier, Daevion Davis and Max Worship.

Here is the Vanderbilt depth map for matchday. No Dayo Odeyingbo (we knew that), no James Bostic, no Daevion Davis and no Max Worship, to name a few.

Vanderbilt’s depth map lists sophomores Jaylen Mahoney and Justin Harris as the top two outside linebackers across from Andre Mintze. Mahoney, trading at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, is a cornerback by trade while Harris, 6-foot-1, 194 pounds, is a security.

Interim coach Todd Fitch noted on Tuesday that not all of the missing players had left the season.

“[players who spoke to me] on Sunday and Monday when this all happened, when they first exonerated coach [Derek] Mason – I spoke to a lot of people, like eight or nine, about their future and what’s going on, « he said. « The player has to do the best for him and we are only trying to do what is best for our program. « . ”

The Commodores are again understaffed on Saturday as they face the Tennessee Volunteers below the SEC threshold of 53 active scholars.

After a nearly two-week hiatus due to COVID-19, the Commodores will go back to court against the Mississippi Valley state this Sunday.

In the SEC, the desire to win – similar to a 0-8 record – won’t hurt. Vanderbilt has to commit to winning instead, and that starts with a home run rental like Tony Elliott.
