NEW DELHI: For P Niveda and Rosamma Anil, March 1st will forever remain an unforgettable day in their lives. As on every other day, both of the nurses at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had reached the vaccination center on schedule in the morning.

However, both were surprised to see that the third phase of the vaccination campaign was on the first day the first person to receive the sting was none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.

« We had absolutely no idea that the Prime Minister was coming. We were on duty at 6 am, as I said. It was in the It was a big surprise for us and a great honor. A very important day in our lives, « said Sister Niveda, who comes from Puducherry and has been with AIIMS for three years.

Niveda told the morning and said that the prime minister was even joking. “He asked if the syringes were from veterinary clinics and we all laughed about it. Then he added that politicians have thick skin and need thick needles. Then he added that he didn’t even feel when he was given the shot. We couldn’t resist and laughed again. He also asked me where I belong. Knowing that I was from Pondicherry, PM said « Vanakkam » in Tamil and tried to speak to me more in the language. He greeted one more time before leaving and said Vanakkam. « 

Accompanied by the director of AIIMS, the Prime Minister received a Covaxin vaccine from Bharat Biotech. He was held in an observation room for half an hour. He had no complications after the sting.
